With an ultra-fast focal ratio of f/3.8, a primary mirror of 210mm/8-inch aperture, a big 85 mm secondary mirror (which prevents vignetting for optimal illumination of large imaging sensors) and a fully-laden tube weight of just 9.8kgs, the EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC PN210 Carbon Mark II Hexafoc OTA has been designed with astrophotography in mind.

The excellent 2.5" Hexafoc DeLuxe focuser does not cause vignetting due to its large diameter and the 10:1 dual speed focus wheel arrangement makes accurate focusing simple and straightforward. The Hexafoc's low profile rack and pinion design supports much more weight than many Crayfor-style focusers, without sacrificing smoothness of focus travel. The image shift-free operation of the Hexfoc sets new standards for focusers in this price class, mostly due the the Hexafoc's hexagonal cross section drawtube, which evenly supports the drawtube no matter what orientation in the sky the telescope is pointed towards. The maxium full inward focus travel of this focuser is 60mm, leaving room for accessories such as low profile filter wheels and off axis guiders.

The PN210 Carbon Mark II Hexafoc also stands out due to its low weight - 1.4 kg less than Explore Scientific's version with the aluminium tube - making this telescope both easy on mounts and on the user for transportation. The fact that PN210's carbon fibre tube also minimises temperature shift in the focus position during long exposures is another definite plus point for the dedicated astrophotographer. The telescope is also supplied in a carry bag for ease of transportation and storage.
