Solar Filter for 76mm Newtonian Telescopes
Observing the Sun is now more affordable than ever!
These filters are designed to work with the Skywatcher 76mm/900mm Newtonian telescopes (e.g. Luna-76) telescopes and possibly with other similar Newtonian telescopes as well.
Please note, it does NOT fit Heritage-76, nor Infinity-76. It might work with the Astrolux 3" Reflector telescope, but we haven't tried...
These Solar Filters are made either with Baader Astro Solar™ Safety Film or Mylar. The Baader AstroSolar will provide a white light image whilst the view through the Mylar will be yellow-orange.
Enter the new millennium with the finest solar filters available. Astro Solar™ Safety Film is clear and homogenous and attains the optical performance of high quality plane-parallel glass filters—it is diffraction limited! Double-sided metal coatings have uniform density and good color balance across the entire field ensuring razor sharp images from edge to edge.
The Sun appears in its “real ”color —neutral white, not blue or orange ,and the sky adjacent to the solar limb is jet black.
You can see detail in sunspots, bright faculae near the limb and the mottled areas known as granules with these filters. The Sun offers constant changes and will keep your observing interesting and fun. Even small aperture telescopes can enjoy features of the Sun.
The Astro Solar™ film is completely safe and durable (won‘t break like glass if dropped). Its rating is ND-5 which means that the film transmits 1/100,000 of visible light (.001%) while reflecting (blocking) 99.999%of unwanted light. The film absorbs all ultraviolet rays while coating reflects infrared light rendering both absolutely harmless. For added assurance, Baader Astro Solar™ film has been declared safe for direct solar viewing by the German National Bureau of Standards for eye safety.
Mounted in a durable ABS or rubber cell that won‘t break.
It comes in a slip-in type housing and its outer diameter is appr. 109mm (we supply this information in the case you want to use this item with a non-Skywatcher branded telescope. So, if the inner diameter of your telescope's front is the same (109-110mm) or similar, please use it but at your own risk only.)
Please take maximum care when observing the Sun by using this type of solar filter. Check the surface before each observation and do not use it if it is damaged (e.g. punctures). Please make sure that strong wind would not blow away the filter. If necessary, use a cellotape or similar way of securing the filter to the telescope's tube. This is especially important if you have children around who might occasionally kick off the filter by mistake or clumsiness...!
We cannot take responsibility if any of the above occurs; please use it at your own risk!
