Observing the Sun is now more affordable than ever!

This filter is designed to work with  the Skywatcher 90mm Refractor telescopes (e.g. Evostar-90, etc.) telescopes and possibly with other similar Refractor telescopes as well.

Please measure your telescope and compare it with our specification at the bottom of the page. Please note, although we have not tried, but it might possibly work with Celestron SkyScout-90 telescopes as well.

As the SF080R solar filter is way too small for the  Skywatcher Evostar-80ED, you might consider using this filter instead as this SF090R solar filter is only few mm smaller than the dew shield of the telescope. You'd have to fill that gap to make it safe (i.e. with a thick 3M tape). It will be your responsibility to make sure that the filter cannot fell out from the telescope during an observation session. We cannot take responsibility for your modifications, of course.

These Solar Filters are made with Baader Astro Solar™ Safety Film. Far superior than any existing glass, Mylar or polymer filters, they lead to sharper, brighter and images of higher contrast.

Enter the new millennium with the finest solar filters available. Astro Solar™ Safety Film is clear and homogenous and attains the optical performance of high quality plane-parallel glass filters—it is diffraction limited! Double-sided metal coatings have uniform density and good color balance across the entire field ensuring razor sharp images from edge to edge.

The Sun appears in its “real ”color —neutral white, not blue or orange ,and the sky adjacent to the solar limb is jet black.

You can see detail in sunspots, bright faculae near the limb and the mottled areas known as granules with these filters. The Sun offers constant changes and will keep your observing interesting and fun. Even small aperture telescopes can enjoy features of the Sun.

According to customer feedback and various reviews, the views through this filter can be further improved by adding either a green colour filter or a Baader Solar Continuum filter. The latter must be accompanied by a UV/IR cut-off filter for best results.

Basically, the best combination for white light solar observations is the Baader Astro Solar Safety film (used in this filter) plus Baader Solar Continuum filter plus Baader UV/IR Cut-off filter. Although I should mention that we cannot really call it anymore white lite solar observation as you will see a greenish image of the sun.

The Astro Solar™ film is completely safe and durable (won‘t break like glass if dropped). Its rating is ND-5 which means that the film transmits 1/100,000 of visible light (.001%) while reflecting (blocking) 99.999%of unwanted light. The film absorbs all ultraviolet rays while coating reflects infrared light rendering both absolutely harmless. For added assurance, Baader Astro Solar™ film has been declared safe for direct solar viewing by the German National Bureau of Standards for eye safety.

Mounted in a durable ABS or rubber cell that won‘t break.

Specification:
It comes in a slip-in type housing and its outer diameter is appr. 109.5mm
(we supply this information in the case you want to use this item with a non-Skywatcher branded telescope. So, if the inner diameter of your telescope's front is the same (109.5-110.0mm) or similar, please use it but at your own risk only.)

Image is for demonstration only.
SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
Please take maximum care when observing the Sun by using this type of solar filter. Check the surface before each observation and do not use it if it is damaged (e.g. punctures). Please make sure that strong wind would not blow away the filter. If necessary, use a cellotape or similar way of securing the filter to the telescope's tube. This is especially important if you have children around who might occasionally kick off the filter by mistake or clumsiness...!
We cannot take responsibility if any of the above occurs; please use it at your own risk!

I just wanted to say thank you for the outstanding customer service I received last week when I ordered a sun filter from your website.

Having checked my old filter, I decided it wasn't safe to use to view Monday's transit, so ordered a new one in the hope it would arrive in time. I was pleasantly surprised when you rang me on Saturday and arranged to send it special delivery so I would definitely get it on time.

I have never received such thoughtful and personal service when ordering online before.

Seeing the transit with my daughters was a memorable experience, and that's thanks to you. 365astromony will be my first port of call from now on!
