Lacerta White Light Herschel Wedge Solar Wedge with 30mm Prism with Brewster-angle with T-thread, ND3.0, 1,25" Nosepiece and 1.25" Eyepiece Holder

The Herschel-LAC1s version of this series comes with a ND=3.0 neutral density filter, 1.25" nosepiece and 1.25" eyepiece holder barrel. Otherwise there are T-thread connections on both the telescope side and eyepiece side.

Please read the SAFETY NOTES at the bottom of the page!

Most commercially available Herschel wedges come in a 90-degree variant.
The Lacerta Herschel-wedges feature a significant, 56.6-degree angle, so called Brewster-angle that provides a special benefit when compared with other 90-degree Herschel wedges.
This befenit is coming from the fact that nearly 100% of light is polarised under this angle; this means that the Lacerta Herschel wedge offers a wider range of dimming, between ND=4.07 and 6.37.

As seen on the below image, the difference in visual perception is significant, so this unique, patented design offers real improvement in visual observations as well as photography of the Sun in white light.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

This version contains the following:

  • Herschel wedge with T-threads on both sides
  • Eyepiece holder barrel (now shortened and comes with a T-thread for direct connection to CCD/CMOS cameras or dSLR cameras via a T-ring)
  • Nosepiece
  • ND=3.0 neutral density filter

(When you use it for photography only, you can use a ND=1.8 filter and a polarising filter for shorter exposure times that gives the best results. But ND=1.8 is not enough for visual observations, so make sure that when you use it with the ND=1.8, you won't look through it with naked eye.)

SAFETY NOTES

ND=3.0 FILTER INCLUDED, BUT IT MUST BE USED WITH A POLARISING FILTER AS WELL FOR VISUAL OBSERVATIONS!
CAN BE USED ONLY WITH REFRACTOR TELESCOPES!

All filters must be screwed in after the Herschel wedge, not before. If you screw in a filter in between the telescope and the Herschel wedge, the filter will most likely overheat and crack that is also dangerous for your eye...

IR/UV Blocking filter and
Baader Solar Continuum Filter is also recommended, especially when used for photography.
When additional polarising filter is used, continuous dimming is possible.

Images are for demonstration purposes only.
